Three of the seven Church members of The Redeemed Evangalical Mission (TREM), Liberty Center and residents of Oke – Oriya, having cataract challenges, were yesterday (Thursday) given free operation.
The patients were detected to be in need of surgery to remove their cataracts during the free eye tests conducted at the TREM Liberty Centre, Ikorodu, as part of its community impact programmes in honour of the 70th birthday anniversary of Bishop Peace Okonkwo, wife of the Presiding Bishop of TREM.
The surgery took place at the Eye Foundation Hospital, Ikorodu, beside the Atan Cemetery along the Ikorodu – Shagamu Road, Ikorodu, on Thursday, June 9 2022.
Deacon Rotimi Erogbogbo, Chairman, RHODAS Youth Centee and Deacon Austin Awolonu, the representative of the TREM Liberty Centre, were on ground to monitor the patients.
The Church is collaborating with the RHODAS Youth Centre and Eye Foundation in carrying out the free tests and surgery.
Speaking with Mr Lawrence Dairo, one of the cataract patients, after the surgery, he described it as successful and thanked all those that contributed to the operation.
“The surgery went successfully. No issue at all. I don’t even feel that they were performing any surgery on me.
“I just felt relaxed and everything went well.
“I was close to TREM Church and I got to know that they will be embarking on free eye test and surgery.
“The cataract had been confirmed before but some doctors and had been planning to do the operation, so, l took advantage of the free surgery.
“I want to say a big thank you to TREM, Rhodas and the Eye Foundation for this surgery. God will surely repay them bountifully. Amen”, Mr Lawrence prayed.
The free surgery operation for the remaining four patients continued Monday.
